Now that the School Christmas Fayre is over today, i can finally put my feet up for a well deserved rest! It has been great meeting lots of new people and sharing idea's.

This is one of the cards i managed to sell today. I hope this inspires you. It is using an iris folding technique and i used fabric to make the folds.

I am so streesed i cannot tell you. The study is a "bit"" of a mess, but i'm sure i will be able to see the carpet soon! There is never enough hours in a day...

I hope you will be able to attend the Fair Christmas Fayre on Oxford Street from 12 Noon ---> 8.00PM in the evening on Saturday 4th December 2010. It will be my second time here, and i can't wait! Such a mellow, laid back atmosphere, with lots of goodies which are handmade, refreshments, live music, swap shop and lots more. Also raising money for the Salvation Army charity.

Vaisakhi card workshops!

I have been so lucky to be involved in the kids Vaisakhi Camp last week, i was so nervous to begin with, but soon got into focus. The ages of the children ranged from 5-18 years old. All of them took part, in having a play with the craft tools i brought along (including the Original Sizzix machine).

Vaisakhi is such an important time for Sikhs and will be represented in public shows all around the world in Nagar Keertan's (processions). Our family will be attending the one which ends in Handsworth Park, Birmingham. The dress code is blue, orange or white and everyone is invited.

March is nearly over! Already! Time to plan quality holiday activities with the children i have been blessed with. My son Jeevan is 4 and Pavan is 2 xXx

I have been having acupunture and massage treatment for my arm. I did have some physiotherapy which did not help me. I would recommend Chinese Acupunture to anyone who has sprain, tissue damage or shooting pains in any limb to give it a go.

I was sad to part with my favourite project this year, a bright birthday book. On the inside pages i used small Studio G stamps to create different patterns on each page. Take a look.. I love minibooks, here is a choc brown one using double sided designer paper (still available for £4.50)
The tiger stamp is from my collection so i can make this card again.

My next job in the morning is to refer myself to the physiotherapist and get this arm sorted out.

I am also thinking of starting craft classes in the new year, so if you are interested and live in the West Midlands it would be great if you could come. I have 3 people signed up so far, there will be a small charge for craft materials (prob £5). I was thinking about one evening every week for 4 weeks then 2 weeks off. Let me know what you think? Should be a laugh!

I may be on a mission to educate everyone to at least sign their name, amongst other things.. she says smiling! I completed Level 2 BSL a few years ago, and i am now looking to do voluntary work to refresh my skills - with the view to eventually work in the deaf community.

Nearly new sale!

Me and my son, will be volunteering at the nearly new sale at All Saints Church Hall in Kings Heath in Birmingham UK (on the corner of the High Street and Vicarge Road from 11-4pm tomorrow. The sale is open to the public from 1-3pm admission is £2 (in aid of National Childbirth Trust charity).

Items for sale will be good quality childrens clothes, cots, prams, nursery equipment, travel systems, maternity wear, toys, videos, books, pushchairs, and much more!

There will also be a raffle, refreshments and homemade cakes.

The Spirit of Diwali

Diwali is the most important festival in the Hindu calender and this year it falls on 17th October. Diwali or deepavali is known as the festival of lights. Diya's (cotton-like string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil) are lit-to signify victory of good over evil.
For Sikhs Diwali is also a very significant time of year. The Third Sikh Teacher, Guru Amar Das institutionalized this as one of the special days when all Sikhs would gather to receive the Gurus blessings at Goindwal. In 1577 the foundation stone of The Golden Temple was laid on Diwali.

The Diwali festival took place during the life of the sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind Sahib. The Muslim Emperor Jahengir, imprisoned the Guru and 52 Kings.The Emperor ruled India at this time. The Asian Indians begged the Emperor to release the Guru and the Emperor agreed but the Gurus said also release the kings. Guru ji had a gown made with 52 string pieces for the Hindus to hold. The Guru and the Hindu kings were also freed at Diwali, Sikhs were very happy when their leader was released. Guru Hargobind Sahib went to the Golden Temple Amritsar in the Punjab.

Sikhs Diwali is recalled throughout India and in many countries; each year to remember Guru ji's release. At Diwali we worship the religious freedom for Sikhs and this is why Diwali is called the Light Festival. As Guru's Mother was full of happiness that her son was released she ordered food and sweets and gave them to everyone. The worshippers float multi-coloured light candles on the water at the Golden Temple. Gurdware all around the world, hold grand fireworks displays.

The months are flying by with the school runs, making food, being a Rehab assistant, keeping up with house chores and making new projects to sell at Christmas Fairs 2009. I stumbled across this awesome poster on the internet. I am now using as my fb profile picture and my Kaur1 Cards Group picture too. What more can i say, it doesn't get no better than Handmade :D

It has been a while since i have "cooked" any decent food - i know, i know. So i thought i'd share our family classic curry. It does not get any better than...

Masar dhal (yellow lentils) recipe

2 drinking cups of masar dhal
2 medium spoons of salt
2 medium spoons of ground tumeric
generous tablespoon of anchor butter
2 medium onions fineley chopped
small amount of ground ginger
chillies 1-2 (as desired) chopped or ground
1 fresh tomatoe finely diced
finely chopped coriander (optional) to garnish

1. To begin, thoroughly wash lentils in the pan they will be cooked in, using cold water. I usually wash them by rubbing the lentils with both hands, then spill the water (not the lentils!) and wash another two times or until the water is clean.

2. Half fill pan with water, cook on medium heat. Once boiled add salt and tumeric, allow to cook thoroughly and add boiling water from kettle if it runs low.

3. Whilst lentils are cooking, add butter in a saucepan and cook onions until golden brown.

4. Now add ginger, cook for a while before adding tomatoes, finely put in chillies.

5. The lentils should look like they have dissolved into the water, which can take a few hours (or you could use a pressure cooker). Now mix onion thurka and lentils together and boil for a few minutes longer to ensure everything is mixed well. Once gas is off add the coriander to garnish.

Serve with some salad and chapatti's. If you are trying this recipe for the first time or make it differently. Please leave your comments underneath. Thank You :P

... i am still alive and kicking!

This year i have been in awe of the sky and the creation that God has created. When on my night shift i keep my camera with me and take many shots of the sunset. It leaves me speechless x

My focus regarding my cards has been to get onto some craft shows, stalls booked. With some experience from last year i will be able to select which one's will be productive for this humble small business. As soon as i have confirmed dates i will post them up.

It feels like the week has vanished into thin air and not alot has been accomplished. In our home, our leaking sink has completley given up on us, and we have had no running water this week :O I have had to get it from the outside tap and fill whatever containers i can get my hands on. It has been a challenging but most of all an appreciative experience!

I have used black card as the base, i then threaded beads from a friends broken bead bobble and added a focal point using the Paper Nation Wedding couple decoupage. The finishing touches have been to add silver corner and congratulations peel offs. If the card tends to lie flat, you can put a candle or an object behind for support. No matter what the man has allegedley done, he is still the best musical magician, a mystro, a songwriter, the best pop artist who ever lived. He has kept the press and the world guessing as to what he will do next, so this has been an unexpected shock to everyone. The man died of a heart attack at 2.30pm USA time, he was rescuscitated for over an hour but his soul had gone and was pronounced dead. Born in the year of my own father 1958 -2009.

His music is mesmorising and has stood the test of time. Even my son Jeevan who is 4 years old sings and dances to the ABC song. There is no other music artist like Michael Jackson and never will be. His moves speak for themselves! Can you do the moon walk? We will all miss you dearly... And your legendary music LIVES on. With Love xxx

Father's Day in the UK is on Sunday 21st June 2009, which is quite soon. Especially for me, as i still have lots of cards and hopefully scrapbook pages to make. Here are a few of the handmade Father's Day Cards...

Last week i was asked to make a birthday card for a person who is a steam train enthusiast, i left it to the last minute and was completely stuck for ideas. Then i remembered that i had taken a photograph of the iconic steam engine at Moor Street Station in December 2008, when we did a craft market there. It was the perfect image, i used the pyramage cardmaking technique to finish the card.

Timescale to make it 3 hours, price of card £3! So you can see i do it for the love of the hobby rather than to make a profit. However, i must sell to fund this addictive hobby! Do i need rehab? I shall leave you to answer that question!

What a week :'(

The 20th of May has been a prolific day for all those involved. On this day my sister had to give birth to a still born baby boy - my nephew Baby J. My heart has been crying... but what of the two people involved in this, how do they get over such pain? Me and my husband went to see the baby yesterday, so tiny and perfect, everything formed - you could see each limb from nose - to little fingers. The reality of the situation put a lump in your throat, as perfect as he is - we will not be able to take him home, but instead will be attending the funeral of Baby J.

Could this have been prevented? My sister attended hospital on three occassions with severe bleeding and clotting. Why were the doctors unable to diagnose the problem then? With so many mis-carriages why was she not given more care and attention? Why did they tell us there is nothing to worry about, the bleed is outside the womb and the baby is perfectly fine... However, once Baby J came they realised that the placenta was not healthy and was the cause of the bleeding.

May Day & More

Yes I have been crafting again :) but this time working on a 6 x 6 Scrapbook album. It has turned out beautiful, and i thoroughly enjoyed completing it over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The client was very pleased with her purchase and kept looking at it again and again and again!!!

Even though i had a hectic 4 days, including a full day out at work, the kids, 3 family functions and the dusting - i still managed to find "me" time to enjoy what i do best! I think it's called being superhuman...

I love the whole process of deciding which photo's, colors and design. When the finished project is perfection, you are able to allow others to enjoy your'e work and feel great pleasure and satisfaction in what can be achieved with a little creativity and imagination.

The Emerald Grove Shop Opening

Hello there, just to let you know that there will be a grand opening of a Handmade Craft shop called The Emerald Grove. I am sooo ExcIteD, i can't tell you!!! Within the shop i will be renting a small section to sell Kippa's Handmade items.

Other items which will be sold there will be jewellery, cards, scrapbooks, bookmarks, pottery, glass items, cotton dresses, keyrings and even hand-knits!

Busy as bee....

The month of March has just flown by, i can't believe April showers are here already! Of course i have been crafting, as well as playtime with the children. My daughter Pavan thinks it's funny to pull her trousers down at any given moment! Almost two, her tantrums are creeping in too...

Just recently my good friend had a baby girl and another ex-work colleague got married. The cards were made from the heart especially for them. Comments welcome :)

Red House Glass Cone Event on Sunday 15th March 2009

The sun was beaming on us through the glass windows, a really glorious day. The gardens, tearooms and museum gift shop were open to the public - which made for a great family day out. To tell you the truth i had no sleep the night before so it was a perfect atmosphere to have a dose!! Thank you for my neice who came with me for support, provided me with chocolate and drove me home - as i was soooo shattered! Hope you like the picture of our table.

I love trying new things, and would like to thank Sue who was selling personalised wooden plaques and other items. She also let me play with her wood burning tool! Near miss to burning my thumb, but the end result is worth it.
